GENEALOGICAL RESEARCH IN SOUTH AFRICA
Does your family have South African connections?
I am a professional researcher based in Cape Town, and offer an efficient and comprehensive service, whether you require a copy of a single document or want a family researched in depth.
The following are examples of the resources used:
- Documents from the Cape Archives, such as death notices and wills
- Documents from other archives in Bloemfontein, Pietermaritzburg and Pretoria (through a network of local researchers)
- Deceased estate files from the office of the Master of the High Court, Cape Town
- Registers of the Dutch Reformed Church countrywide (held at the Genealogical Institute of South Africa in Stellenbosch)
- Old newspapers from across the country (held at the National Library of South Africa in Cape Town)
- Old almanacs and directories (held at the Cape Archives and the National Library).
All research enquiries are welcome. It is helpful if you give as much detail as possible and set out your requirements clearly. I will reply without delay, giving an estimate of the costs involved.
You may also like to visit the Genealogy World website at www.genealogyworld.net. Here you will find many useful articles on everything from the 1820 British Settlers to the Anglo-Boer War, as well as transcriptions of many different types of record, including passenger lists and announcements of births, marriages and deaths in early newspapers.
